As a child his family moved to Millbrae near the San Francisco airport, where his father worked as a mechanic. Don graduated from Mills High School and attended the College of San Mateo where he received an AA Degree in fine art. Don then attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland before finishing his BA Degree in fine art at California State University Stanislaus in Turlock. Don then earned a printmaking certificate (a fifteen unit graduate program in fine art printmaking) and a masters degree in inter-disciplinary studies, concentrating on fine art and sociology. After graduation Don began teaching art at Merced College and at Modesto Junior college. Don currently teaches drawing and art appreciation at Modesto Junior college. Don works with both graphic works on paper and ceramics. His graphic works are representational images of urban landscapes. Recently he has been working on a series of food booths at county fairs. His drawing of Stuffie’s Hamburger Stand won Best of Show honors at the Turlock spring show last year, and his drawing California Cheese won Best of Show in the Lodi Spring show this year. He also works in ceramics creating both traditional functional pottery and sculptural pieces. He has built several kilns that he uses to fire his work. Don has recently been selected to show his ceramic work at “Feats of Clay” in Lincoln California, at “Ink and Clay” in Pomona and at the crafts show at the 2nd City gallery in Long Beach the last 3 years.
