On Friday December 23, our hearts were torn apart, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Kevin E. Harchar, 41, of Moosic passed into eternal rest. He is survived by the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Alison Morgan Harchar and their two children Dominic and Alexa.
Born in Scranton on June 10, 1981, he was the son of Mary Ann Secoolish Harchar and John and Elizabeth Harchar, all of Taylor. Kevin was a graduate of Riverside High School, class of 1999, Arizona State University, and Widener University Commonwealth Law School. Kevin worked for the law firm Pond Lehocky where he became partner in 2021. He lived his life in service to others even in his career, where he helped provide support for those that were injured.
Since the age of 15 Kevin adored Alison. She was always the center of his life, and he would do anything to make her happy. Kevin loved being a dad more than anything in the world. There was nothing but laughs, hugs, and kisses every time he was with them. He referred to Dominic as his "best buddy forever" and Alexa as "my love." He loved spending Sunday afternoons with Dominic watching football and managing their fantasy football teams. He loved spending the summers swimming with Alexa or just snuggling on the couch watching movies. Kevin had the brightest smile and the biggest heart. He was the most loving husband and father. Taking care of his family is what brought him the most joy. He was a selfless, humble, and kind man, making everybody feel loved and safe. We will always remember these qualities as they will live on in his children.
You could always find Kevin at a sporting event. He especially loved coaching his own children. He coached Dominic's basketball and baseball teams as well as Alexa's basketball and softball teams. Watching his kids do what they love brought him great happiness. He was the best coach and treated all his players as if they were his own. He loved watching Dominic play travel basketball. He was named "team dad" because of his ability to bring everyone together and have fun when the kids were off the court. All of Dominic's teammates loved when Kevin would bake his famous chocolate chip cookies and bring them to the tournaments.
Kevin loved celebrating holidays with family and friends. He would have the best Halloween parties in his garage every year, where he would invite the entire neighborhood and Dominic and Alexa's friends. He would make sure to have full-size bags of candy for the kids and lots of food and drinks for the parents. He loved Christmas with his family. He always wore his favorite white jump suit on Christmas morning. Kevin made sure that his nieces and nephews received every gift they wanted.
He not only loved his family and friends, but he also loved his community. He spent numerous hours volunteering for countless organizations. Kevin served as a Riverside School Board Director since 2018. Under his tenure, the Riverside School District has implemented countless academic improvements and has planned and executed numerous capital improvement projects. His most recent office held was board treasurer. Kevin also served as a committee member of Coaches vs Cancer since 2015, working to raise money to help support cancer patients in Northeastern Pennsylvania. In addition, he served as an executive committee member for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and was named Man of the Year in 2019. He served as Co-Chair for the Lackawanna Bar Association's Wills for Heroes program, which provides free estate documents to all first responders. Since 2018 Kevin made a commitment to help raise funds to make sure every child in Moosic received a stocking full of goodies at Christmas.
Whether a team needed a coach, a committee needed a chair, or anyone needed a friend, Kevin stepped up to the plate. Kevin found great happiness making others happy.
Also left to carry on his memory are a brother, Kyle and his wife, Katherine and their children, Helaina and Bennett; a sister, Christina Lafferty and her children, Cole and Brody; his in-laws, Vaughan and Donna Homko Morgan; Mike and Lisa Antoniacci and their children, Michael, Morgan, Nico, and Giavona; Ken and Jessica Paulino and their children, Luke, Francesca, and Isabel; as well as countless loyal friends.
